What is zucchini

Zucchini (in some regions is called squash) belongs to the pumpkin vegetable. Its properties and nutritional values ​​were first appreciated by the inhabitants of Mexico and South America, the court comes from. Zucchini came to Poland from Italy, hence its name. In Italian, “zucchina” is simply a small pumpkin. Depending on the variety, it can be dark green, yellow or striped. Vegetable can grow up to about 40 cm in length, but it’s best to pick zucchini earlier.

The advantage of zucchini is that heavy metals do not accumulate in it. In addition, the vegetable deacidifies the body and positively affects the digestive process, so it is recommended for problems with hyperacidity. It is worth knowing that zucchini can be one of the first vegetables that is given to a small child. Due to the high content of nutrients and easy digestion, dietitians recommend it to six-month-old babies.

Ideas for zucchini dishes: Pasta with zucchini


  • 4 small courgettes,
  • 1 medium onion,
  • 1 clove of garlic,
  • Cherry tomatoes,
  • 5 tablespoons of olive oil,
  • 3 tablespoons of cream,
  • 2 handfuls of grated cheese,
  • a pinch of dried basil,
  • salt,
  • a pack of spaghetti.
  • A method of preparing:

Cook the pasta in lightly salted water according to the recipe given on the packaging. After cooking, rinse with cold water, translate into a colander and set aside.

Pour olive oil into the frying pan, throw in the onion peeled earlier and cut into four parts. Wash the zucchini thoroughly and cut into medium cubes. If the zucchini is not young, we must peel it off and hollow it out with the seeds. Put the chopped zucchini in a pan with oil and onion, season with a pinch of salt and fry on low heat. When the zucchini has clearly softened, crush one clove of garlic and add it to the zucchini. Mix. We add 3 tablespoons of cream, dried basil and stew for a few minutes. If necessary, we can water the dish a little with water. Finally add losses and mix thoroughly until the cheese begins to “melt”. Remove from gas and set aside.

We put pasta on flat, large plates and pour a thick zucchini sauce. We arrange the cherry tomatoes halves. For an aesthetic effect, we can decorate the dish with several tasty leaves, fresh basil.

Hollow medium-sized courgettes with a spoon and fill with a layer of stewed vegetables or meat. If you want them to be soft enough to wrap in aluminum foil and bake in an oven preheated to 200 degrees Celsius.

You can also cook them on the grill on non-stick trays. Add mozzarella, ricotta or parmesan cheese so that the whole interior is better combined with zucchini. To make sure it is baked evenly, insert a wooden stick inside the vegetables. Stuffed zucchini can be an interesting alternative to dinner.
